And now, the reason for this written statement:
As artists, what we give best to our fellow human beings is our unique way of looking at life. We bring beauty, mystery, design, passion and artistry into a world that needs our voices and our vision. Art is meant to be celebrated, shared and felt deep within our emotional centers.
We learn/teach/grow by telling our stories through a visual medium. I'm thankful for my amazingly-talented friends and mentors who encouraged me to re-discover my own artistic journey into the world of mixed media. I have learned at the feet of masters. I'm grateful these incredible teachers willing shared of themselves so I could quickly gain the confidence to fly unassisted.
At some point in our introspective journey as artists, we must discover that authentic place within us to do work that is ours and ours alone. As I continue to probe, experiment, dissect, and learn in the solitude of my studio, I've found that place where I can declare with a mixture of wonder and pride, upon looking at my work, "That is mine. I created that!"
The Internet is an incredible tool. Technology allows us to easily share our stories. It's also created a double-edged sword for many whom are working artists and teachers, as tales of their work being replicated and published by someone else seem to be growing at an alarming rate.
This is my request to recognize the hours and effort that goes into making creative work. Please respect and honor copyrights. Not only is it ethical, it's good Karma!
